Benefits of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
Shannon King, Charity Director

Himalayan Pink sea salt is mined in the Himalayan mountains which stretch across  Asia, China, Nepal,  Myanmar,  Pakistan,  Bhutan,  Afghanistan to India.  Millions of years ago crystalized sea salt beds were covered by lava and now lay deep within the mountains.  It’s been kept in pristine condition and  its believed that the surrounding lava has protected the salt beds from modern pollution.  The mountain and its salt beds are also surrounded by snow and ice year round.  This multiple layering of protection leads the belief that Himalayan Pink Sea Salt is the purest salt to be found on earth and has many great health benefits.

Why choose Pink Himalayan salt? Not all salt is created equal.  Common table salt has been heavily  chemically processed and bleached.  In the process, all of the blood pressure stabilizing minerals including potassium (but except sodium and chloride), are stripped during the refining process.  Iodine is added back in to give you “iodized salt”, however these levels are still not adequate for the bodies needs.   The end product may contain added chemicals such as ammonia or aluminum which is toxic to the body and has been linked to neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Pink Himalayan salt gets its pink color from its high mineral content. In comparison to table salt, which is left with about 4 minerals, Pink Himalayan salt has a whopping 84 trace minerals, trace elements, and all six electrolytes required for our health, including calcium, iodine, sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorous, and iron. In fact, Himalayan salt is shown to contain triple the amount of potassium per serving than Maldon or Celtic sea salt.  Since the crystal structure is larger than refined salts it contains less sodium per serving.  Because of its high naturally occurring mineral content its health benefits include:

  • Create an electrolyte balance
  • Increases hydration
  • Regulate water content both inside and outside of cells
  • Balance pH(alkaline/acidity) and help to reduce acid reflux
  • Prevent muscle cramping
  • Aid in proper metabolism functioning
  • Strengthen bones
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Help the intestines absorb nutrients
  • Prevent goiters
  • Improve circulation
  • Dissolve and eliminate sedimentto remove toxins

It is even said to support libido, reduce the signs of aging, and detoxify the body from heavy metals.

Pink Himalayan salt is used in many ways.  It is used in the same manner as common table salt – in cooking, to season meals, and to preserve food. Blocks of pink salt are used as serving dishes, cooking surfaces, and cutting boards. It is also used in place of bath salts, and lamps and candle holders made of pink salt are available.

Making the switch from common table salt to Pink Himalayan sea salt is a fantastic health upgrade.  With its many minerals, trace elements, and electrolytes you will surely notice a positive shift in your overall health.
